REMI DE'AGO AND THE PIXIE
Last night I trudged slowly down the path alongside the rocky creek covered with a tract of soft wetland full of overgrown pastel orange and yellow marigolds that gleamed brightly in the light of a sparkling full moon. There was a large full and ominous moon in the sky and everything was eerily quiet. I was tired and lonely and I’d had a couple of hotdogs at the game that sat in my belly like a lead balloon trying to take flight but too heavy to move upward. I decided to stop by the side of the creek and look at the moon for a while, to digest the processed mystery meat of the hotdog. The dogs were bringing agony to my gut, so I laid back on the ground to relax my body so that I could get the lead in my stomach to move down. I was close to the water’s edge where there was a soothing trickle of water bubbling out of the brook. I looked up at the big white moon that twinkled like a pearl in a clam shell and wondered if bad things do happen when there is a full moon. Exhausted, I closed my eyes and after shutting my eyes I was sleep.
When I woke up, the moon had moved behind a cloud, like the man in the moon wanted to hide because he had become frightened. The weather had grown cold and darkness fell over the sky like a black vail. I got up and I crossed my arms over chest to rub both my upper arms at the same time for warmth. Suddenly, a splash in the creek caught my attention. I looked down at the water and saw something twinkling in the water. It swirled around as though it was drowning. I quickly reached into the water and lifted what looked like a girl’s small doll with wings. The creature was about five inches long with colorful butterfly wings. It was almost lifeless, so I turned the tiny creature onto its stomach and lightly tapped it on the back to extract any water that was in its lungs. Barely audible, I heard a cough and I turned the creature over to look more closely to see if it was okay. It was four inches in size and tried to frown at me but quickly closed its eyes to catch its breath after dispensing all the water that had filled the tiny lungs. The little life form was naked and had what seem to be genitals of a girl. I quickly took a napkin I had in my pocket and covered her. She had pointed ears and her hair was streaked with many different colors of magenta and purple. Her skin was the color of a popsicle stick with large eyes, the color I wasn’t sure of as she still had them closed as if in a deep sleep. I knew she was alive because of the rise and fall of the napkin I used to cover her.
